Snow Crazed State

The snow is finally coming according to Justin from the channel 9 news weather forecast. Light flurries have started as I'm typing this post. It's kind of like gambling in Vegas as many of us try to figure out how much we will actually see on the ground. The biggest number posted so far is 14 inches possibly, while the on the low end of the measuring tape I've seen only 4 inches mentioned. I know certain skiers, snowboarders and businesses who are licking their lips at the potential likelihood of getting the local hills open, xc ski trails and snowmobile trails groomed. The one thing that I do like about being a cyclist is that it can be a year round activity even in a snow crazed state like Wisconsin if you are daring. If I had to pray every year for good snow like the xc skiers do and others, I would probably find another sport or hobby to invest my money and time into. Don't get me wrong, I do like to xc ski, snowboard, sled with the kids and snowshoe, but it's not game over if I don't get out in the white stuff. Yes, it does have an effect on where I work for sales, but we're fortunate enough that we aren't totally dependent on every winter being blizzard like to the effect that it closes the doors. With cold temperatures we can be somewhat guaranteed that the ski hills will make snow and those that live for the gravity sports of winter will usually get their fill of winter on the manmade whiteness. Luckily for most of us cyclists like me, if the local mountain bike trails are closed during the peak of the cycling season in the summer, we can still leave from our garages and go out for a road ride if we're not fair weather cyclists. For those seeking good groomed xc trails for the Birkie madness when our area has a sub par winter, it can turn into a three hour plus trek north driving into Michigan for a few hours of winter bliss before the long tiring drive back home to what was once a winter wonderland.

Why did I leave Florida? You'll need to ask my wife. Pedal on...

How could one pass up a reason to party, get wild and weird. If we couldn't have our various snow dances, sausage eating sacrifices and other sacrilegious Snow God activities that sometimes include nudity to bring on the snow, there would be way too many weird all weather cyclists; then you'd probably take up XC skiing to get away from it all.

Kyia - I would be a total convert if we had parties in central Wisco like what you're talking about...have fun skiing this winter!

I going down to Ocala on Friday and I actually feel a little jealous of you guys playing in the snow up here. Guess you always want what you don't have.
