Ice Biking

Day three of commuting in the New Year commences in a few hours as I've kept as much snow and ice under my studded knobby tires as possible. My daily route has included neighborhoods, the Green Circle Trail, bike paths, a partially completed bike path under the interstate and sporadic packed snowmobile tracks once into the business park along with some hike-a-biking. You know that our area only has a few of us half crazed winter biking commuters when a women from my daughters school comes into the bike shop and asks me if I'm the guy biking past the school each morning heading east. When i told her yes, she just shook her head and smiled at me. Sometimes I wish that I could read minds to actually find out if she was thinking how crazy I am to still be on a bike in these single digit temps with ice and snow all around. To each, his own...

After being sedentary over Christmas break it has given me more than enough motivation to keep myself more active this month. Just getting into to January has gotten me already looking too far ahead into the upcoming season. Specific races, travel and my favorite training routes have occupied my thoughts and doodling lately. Yesterday a box of motivation landed from Ergon with a variety of green grips inside it to end the day on a high note.

This weekend is my annual trek to the Madison Bike Swap with my brother to wander through the many tables of temptation without handing over too much cash for that must have item if it happens to appear. This trip is definitely another way to get motivated for the 2010 season just because of the all the bike people and friends you always see. Pedal on...
