Lots of White Stuff
It looks like we got hit with about eight inches of fresh snow from the time Mark and I pedaled home from work late in the afternoon yesterday. Who needs rollers to work on bike handling skills when you can get outside and ride through a winter snow storm as you try to stay upright. Last night is what makes winter commuting fun and worthwhile with the snow making our usual route somewhat more technical and sometimes a surprise. You throw in having to cross the I-39 on and off ramps and you take your life into your own hands with all the drivers who don't realize that they need to look both ways before turning onto highway 10. Yesterday morning we elected to cut through the city park on the Green Circle Trail and found that the snow in wooded areas was very much like riding on a sandy beach as it was difficult at times to keep the bike tracking in a straight line. My gearing seemed to be fine on my singlespeed DISS if I didn't get bogged down with 32x16 gearing, but Mark was going to look at lowering his gear inches on his 29'er Mono-Cog to have the ability to accelerate better when the snow gets bad. For my day-off I have some basement cleaning on the to-do task list along with lunch and a sing-a-long at my daughters day-care. Throw in some shoveling along with cleaning up a few of my bikes and I should have my day completely covered. Pedal on if you can...

I'll be back in WI in a couple of weeks. I was able to leave a bike there after the summer with the hopes of riding it when we came back for the holidays. From what you say it could prove to be some crazy ridding I've done in some time

Bandit - If the conditions are safe enough to meet my crazy standards I'll be on my bike just about every day outside if possible. The only things that will stop me from riding are lots of snow before the plows get out and/or if something is planned with the family. Have a great holiday with your family and be safe.
