Finally!
This morning I got out of bed early and headed out to Standing Rocks to get a lap in before heading off to work around 9 am. It was a beautiful ride being the only person at the trail head and nice to have the 14 miles of flowing singletrack all to myself. My legs seem to be coming back after the Trans Iowa effort as I completed one 14 section lap in just a few minutes off my average time when I'm feeling good. It's strange how on the 29'r you can feel like you're just lumbering through the woods, but in reality I'm still moving along at a good pace. With the hardtail 29'r I have wished a few times that I had my Specialized Epic when I got into some rooted up areas as the 29'r didn't seem up to par with my past full suspension bikes. Taking today's ride with a grain of salt, I'm going to keep trying to adapt my old body and riding style to the 29'r as I would like to stay on this bike for the WORS series races and use my full suspension bike for the 100 milers and 24 hour races. In a few more rides I hope to feel more comfortable if the weather would stay dry for a few days without all this rain the dark skies are going to dump on Sunday again.
