My morning commute yesterday was a trial run of the virtual training partner feature when using an existing course on the Garmin Edge 305 cycling GPS. It looks to be a good feature if you are riding courses that are regular routes during the week or for measuring fitness when doing intervals where you might want to be consistent in your efforts and times. The only downfall could be the morning freight train that put me .75 miles behind the blip on the screen that steadily pulled away before hearing a beep that indicated my training partner had reached my commuting destination. I probably need to read the manual better to see if the pause or stop feature will stop this from happening if I encounter another train or traffic light. January is no time to make up .75 miles when you are carrying a backpack and dressed not to freeze your butt off in the Arctic morning temps.Thursday, January 25, 2007
