Island Lake
This morning was a frigid mountain bike ride on the frozen trails at Island Lake State Park. It felt good being out on the bike early, with nothing but a few snowflakes to deal with. I managed to get another three hours of riding in with two complete laps of the marked trails, once I managed to navigate the shortcut through the swamp into the trails from the interstate. I saw only three other cyclists and it was nice to be riding without any distractions. Tomorrow will probably be another early ride day as I leave for the AMA Amp'd Mobile Supercross at Ford Field in Detroit around 10am. I'm already looking forward to the weeks ahead when I can gradually start shedding some of the layers of clothing needed to ride this time of year. It seems like getting dressed takes up a good portion of time that I would rather spend on the bike. I guess that's the reason so many friends think that we're crazy being outside biking in temps below freezing with gusting winds that make it even colder. I believe that it makes us mentally tougher during the season. Hopefully I'm right?
