Thunderdown Scouting Mission

Earlier today Mark and I made the hour long drive up to the Underdown Recreation Area near Merrill, WI to check out next Saturday's 12 hour course for the WEM's Thunderdown race. From our scouting lap we found that it's going to be a tough 12 hours with a course that has been carved out of this unique north-woods landscape. With a printed map in hand from the Thunderdown blog we made it through a complete lap with only a couple of wrong turns where we needed to back track a few times to get back on course. Short power climbs, roots, rocks and switchbacks are all found on a course that throws it all at you. A few fast insignificant fire roads are thrown in to connect some of the single track, but this race will be all about staying on your bike and moving efficiently along for a 12 hour period through some amazing single track. I'm hoping to see some familiar faces next Saturday at the Thunderdown race and on Sunday at race #11 of the WORS series at the Wolf River Rendezvous. Pedal on
