My Iola Ride
Even though today's race wasn't as brutal as Trans Iowa, it became apparent early on that it was a survival ride, not a race as my legs ached and begged for me to stop torturing them. Maybe I could've drank a few beers and rang cowbells as a spectator, but the competitor in me wouldn't allow that to happen as I'm just too stubborn to miss a race this close to home. With the little amount of adrenalin I could muster from the excitement that I always get from looking forward to the start of another WORS series, I toughed out the five laps and finished on the course I helped to lay out and build when WORS first came to Iola in the late nineties. There have been some minor changes since that first race, but the core of the original course is still intact. Even knowing this course so well with every rock, root and hill memorized couldn't help make my long afternoon get easier. I was toast before Don screamed Gooooooo........... With nothing exciting today to continue blogging about, all I can add is that my 29'r Specialized Stumpy handled and rode well considering that I was not up to the challenge. Lake Geneva in two weeks will hopefully be a better RACE day. Pedal on...

Nice job staying with it.
Good ride also! Those drop bars remind me of Tomac when he was tearing up the NORBA series on a Yeti years ago.
Scott, it was great to see you yesterday, and thanks for the encouragement. Sorry it was survival -- I must say, if the course wasn't so awesome, we would not have made the drive up there. Thanks for being a part of WORS history!
