No Biking Allowed
I just set a record for 2007 with being away from my bikes for six whole days. This hasn't happened at all over the last few years. The town I spent T-Day in named Indiana, Pennsylvania looked to be a road bikers dream destination with all the long climbs that rolled through the foothills of this old coal mining community that is also the birth place and childhood home of a famous actor named Jimmy Stewart(It's a Wonderful Life, etc). I had my cycling bag packed with all the necessary gear for the trip, but decided to leave the bike at home on Wednesday morning when the weather forecast predicted rain and snow during parts of our 14 hour drive. My decision to go bike less payed off as I could just imagine my bike being tortured on the roof rack for the many countless miles by the heavy rain from Chicago to the Pennsylvania state line that we ended up driving through. My only training over Thanksgiving came at the dinner table in the form of getting my eating utensils from the plate to my mouth in a timely fashion. Could the holidays make me any lazier? Probably, except for the fact that I need to not forget about my high mileage day of riding gravel that has been marked on my calendar towards the end of April 2008. Pedal on...
