Long Drive Home
We left Jackson at about 1pm on Monday after staying overnight at my parents house on Sunday to head for Fort Custer State Park for a short break from our eight hour drive home to meet Pat and Hal for some awesome Michigan singletrack riding. After about 25 miles of railing through old WWI & WWII training trenches left over from from the old military base, we packed the tired bikes and bodies up for the long drive through Chicago and back North to quiet old Stevens Point. It helped having Mark split the drive up as it wears on you after surviving the Chicago traffic and whatever else the city throws at you when driving solo. The Stumpy 29'r performed up to my standards this weekend with another podium at the IceMan along with a little bit of cash to offset some of our traveling expenses. The more I ride it, the more I like it. Who would have known? This week is the start of some well earned down time away from the bikes. I may commute a few days, but nothing structured is in the plans for a handful of weeks before I get some idea of what my schedule will be in 2008. Yes, it will include 24-9 again in August as I've decided to come out of my early retirement already. Once a solo freak, always a solo freak. Pedal on...
