The forecast had the rain starting at 12 noon and sure enough with it being the WORS Subaru Cup race weekend the rain started just before noon and was still falling before I left Nordic Mtn. just after 6pm. Each lap got progressively worse as the rain came down harder and the course got really slick. With the first few laps that included a fall being no fun at all, I put my head down and put together two good laps at the end to make this mudder a worthwhile race. I finished 21st out of 50+ in the Elite field and ended up 3rd in the 40-44 age group to get up on the podium. My bike is trashed again and I've decided to bag the Super D and Short Track events tomorrow since I didn't pre-register. Rain showers are again forecast throughout the day which leaves little motivation to get the bike cleaned up tonight and make the hour drive back down to Nordic in the morning. Hopefully pictures will be posted later from ace photographer RUSTY early in the week if the rain didn't cause havoc with his camera. Below is the elevation profile chart from my Garmin Edge 305 GPS cycling unit for the five lap race. Lots of slow climbing today that really hurt in the later laps. Goals for Sunday are to sleep in past 6am, pick-up around the house and clean up or overhaul my mountain bike for the second time in the last two weeks of racing. Also, a BIG THANKS to Chris Strout's wife Kim for all the bottle hand-ups today and for the much needed encouragement each lap. I'm starting to become a believer that it only rains in Wisconsin on WORS race weekends. What do you think?

That's seeming to be the case, isn't it? Let's hope for DRY conditions at Rhinelander. . .or at LEAST not knee deep mud ruts.
Nice job Saturday.
