Sunday Ride=Frozen Toes
What I hate the most about riding in the Winter months is the time it takes to get dressed and out the door. At first you kind of look like a bad example of a ninja warrior before slowing transforming yourself into this crazy cyclist whose riding the back country roads in bone chilling temps while all your somewhat sane friends are snowboarding or xc skiing.
Everything was fine with the temps in the teens and a NNW wind around 10mph except for my feet which I neglected by going with my mtb shoes and booties for the 25 mile ride. This next week my Lake Winter MXZ shoes will definitely be part of the cold weather riding gear kit. Today I made the mistake of being lazy and bypassed the Lakes to save time and in the end it took about 30 minutes to thaw my tender toes out before taking a much needed hot shower.
My clothing of choice for the past few Winters has been the Craft Thermal Jacket, Craft Gore Wind Stop Thermal Tight and the Craft Gore Wind Stop Long Sleeve base layer. For my head and face I use a Mountain Hardware Micro Ozone neck gaiter and Wind stopper Micro Dome hat. On my hands I've found the Swix Lobster mitts with Wind stopper the best when the temps drop below freezing.
