Trans-Iowa Ride Choices?

  1. Mountain

  2. Cyclo-Cross

  3. 29'r

I'll miss my Ergon grips the most if I go with a bike with with drop bars with this type of mileage, but the cross bike would add multiple hand positions and would be lighter until all the self-supported gear is loaded on. Maybe some feedback from past participants would help. I could make myself bike poor and just build all three for the journey while waiting to choose the ultimate machine the day we arrive in Iowa according to the weather and course conditions. Some Iowa farm road re-con or roads like those in my area might have to serve as testing grounds. Some other research will need to go into hydration packs and lightweight clothing in the next four months also. Maybe a certain bike rep can help make my decision easier.

Coming in the near future to a dealer close to you are these new Podium shoes from Specialized. These could be my shoes of choice when not putting on big mileage throughout the season.

Enough with the bike babble... Christmas is only a few days away! This morning I'm picking up some Christmas treats for friends along with a few stops for gifts that will find a home under our tree for the two woman that are very important to me for our first Christmas celebration as a growing family. Happy Holidays and safe travels to all.
