The Day After
If I make it through today working retail, it will probably be a miracle. I'll commute to work hoping that my route will avoid the thousands of crazy early morning shoppers out for big savings and free give-a-ways if you purchase the right product. Yesterdays morning road ride helped to off-set the T-Day dinner as it becomes a grazing contest before, during, and after dinner. My brother and I got out in the 26 degree morning air to breeze through a short, but refreshing ride. We saw lots of deer hunters still looking for the "Big Buck" with most of them that we saw just standing around vehicles in driveways probably telling the sad tale about the "Big One" that got away. I also did notice the increase in "Big 4x4" trucks with dual exhausts, and fully covered rear cab windows with either decals or possibly a favorite flag from the South. All gave us plenty of room on the road which was out of the norm, with this not always being the case throughout the year with drivers who find it necessary to talk on the cell phone while driving who aren't good at multi-tasking to begin with. Hunting to me is like watching a Superman movie with all these normal working class people suddenly stepping into a phone booth and instantly reappearing in blaze orange transforming themselves into the deer slayers of the hunting season. Hunting and cycling are somewhat alike in many ways to me, as so many people from all walks of life pick up the sport and roll out of the garage as a weekend warrior in a replica team kit looking like Lance, with dreams of dropping the pack or being the first to reach the summit of the biggest climb in the area on the weekly group ride. To each their own.
