Iola Bump & Jump 06
A long, sunny and dusty day of mountain bike racing is about the best you can ask for minus a few climbs at the opening race for WORS. You know that you're in the zone when you ask your wife if it's the last lap and you question her answer even though she's correct. I finished 21st Overall in the Elite field and 2nd in the 40-44 age category. I was with Mountain Goat most of the race as we yo-yo'd back and forth until he would about run me over on every climb with his custom "Mr Bigg" 29'r built by the one and only Mitch Man. For all my hard work I got a shiny newly designed WORS medal that "Big D" had made this season celebrating his 15th year of the WORS series. Overall, I had a good day with it being my 2nd hard effort of the season that included the intervals I did on Wednesday this past week.
I had no problem riding at a good hard pace, but lacked something on the many hills which were steep and ranged from 10-18% in grade. This was a train through race along with the next months worth of races before leaving the preparation period of my training plan. I need to keep reminding myself that this years #1 goal is just under three months away at the 24 Hours of 9 Mile and I need to keep grinding away.
